What to Expect Before Your Dog or Cat’s Surgery
Your pet’s safety during surgery is our highest priority at Angel Animal Hospital. Before admitting your pet for surgery, our team will take the time to discuss your pet’s condition and explain what the procedure will involve.
We recommend pre-anesthetic blood work for senior pets, which helps us check for underlying health issues before anesthesia. We may also recommend a pre-surgical exam, depending on your pet’s age and health status.
On the day of surgery, we will move your pet to our preparation area, where we will place an IV catheter for the delivery of anesthesia, medication, and fluids. We will then clip your pet’s fur near the incision site. After preparation is complete, your pet will be moved to our sterile surgical suite, where we will begin monitoring their vital signs with our advanced equipment and one of our technicians. Once your pet is fully anesthetized, our veterinarian will begin the surgery.
What to Expect After Your Pet’s Surgery
After the surgery is complete, we use Companion Laser Therapy to help reduce pain and swelling. We will then move your pet to our recovery area, where we will continue to monitor them closely.
Our facility is equipped with a post-surgical boarding area if overnight hospitalization is required. When your pet is ready to be picked up, our veterinarian or technician will notify you. You will receive discharge instructions when you arrive, including at-home care and recovery expectations. Please feel free to ask us any questions at this time or while your pet is recovering at home.
